Dr. K.P. Biswas, M.Sc, Ph.D, D.F.Sc. (Bombay), E.F. (West Germany), F.Z.S, F.A.B.S. (Kolkata), took interest in induced fish breeding in 1957 looking at the success of Dr. Hiralal Chaudhuri in Angul Fish farm in Odisha. In 1960, the author succeeded to induce a pair of mrigal (Indian major carp) in Balasore, Odisha by injecting fish pituitary hormone. Thereafter from 1961 onwards he induced a number of Indian major carps for breeding in the field and in controlled temperature in the laboratory.

The physiology of breeding mechanism and the environment for fish breeding covered the natural breeding of different varieties of fishes.
