Shobhan N. Lamare was born in Jowai. He graduated from St. Edmund’ s College, Shillong with honours in History. Two years later he secured a first class M.A. in History from the North-Eastern Hill University. Continuing his studies in the same department, he was awarded the M.Phil. degree in 1995, for his research on “The Cultural Transition of the Pnars” from the middle of the 19th Century to North-Eastern Hill University awarded him the Ph.D. in 2000, his thesis “The Jaintias Resistance: 1860-
