Sarkar obtained Bachelor and Master Degrees in Zoology from the Unviersity of Kalyani, West Bengal and did his Ph.D. Degree in Zoology in 1982 from the same university. <BR> He joined as Technical Officer (Fisheries Science) in 1980 at the West Bengal Comprehensive Area Development Corporation and continued his service there upto 1985.
